On November 17, 2025, an unveiling ceremony was held at Kyoei Steel Co., Ltd., Kanto Works to celebrate the installation of the commemorative monument Ethical Link.
Attendees at the ceremony included Mariko Ando, Mayor of Tsuchiura City; Professor Sayoko Tanaka of the Faculty of Art and Design, University of Tsukuba; Associate Professor Shinji Miyasaka of the same faculty; and Koichiro Azuma, representative of our company.
Ethical Link is a metal sculpture measuring approximately 4 meters in height and 4.8 meters in width. The work was created using steel manufactured by Kyoei Steel and is based on the motif of the company’s steel product brand, Ethical Steel.
The sculpture also incorporates twelve bicycle wheels, symbolizing Tsuchiura as a “bicycle city,” together with a mechanism that rotates when visitors pedal. As a device representing both resource circulation and coexistence with the local community, it allows viewers to physically experience the process by which iron scrap is recycled and reborn as steel products.
The work is installed beside the main gate of Kyoei Steel’s Kanto Works along Prefectural Route 199 (commonly known as the Fruit Line), a highly visible and well-traveled location. It is positioned so that it can be seen not only by employees and visitors, but also by passersby. As a monument symbolizing the company’s commitment to moving forward together with the local community, we hope it will continue to be appreciated for years to come.
