Starting June 18, the special exhibition TSUNAGU ACTION: Koichiro Azuma, JI-REN-SHA – Eight Wheels – will open at Tamagawa Takashimaya. This is a fully reimagined new version of my earlier work Ji-Ren-Sha. Using discarded bicycle wheels, the piece consists of eight wheels that remain linked and spinning in succession. It moves, yet does not advance. In this way, it expresses a kind of contemporary “idle rotation.”
In conjunction with the exhibition, TAMAGAWA CYCLE FESTA 2025 will also be held on July 5 and 6 at the neighboring Arena Hall. The event will feature vintage bicycles, cycling wear, bicycle-themed talk events, and art. Some of my smaller works will also be on view. If you are involved in cycle culture, I hope you will stop by.
