Manpowered Snowplow

This new work by an artist who creates metal sculptures activated through human involvement takes the form of a giant vehicle made from bicycles. Based on the motif of a rotary snowplow—a machine that blows away snow with large blades—the work evokes the solidarity of the residents of the lively Nanawa district as they confront heavy snowfall. It gives form to a vehicle powered by people themselves, including its visitors, who become the engine.
This work will normally be shown in a stationary state. Several special driving events are planned during the exhibition period, during which the vehicle will actually move (dates and times to be announced once confirmed).

How to experience the work
During regular display: Visitors may view the stationary vehicle and sit in the driver’s seat. By pedaling there, they can activate the shooter and the auger.
During driving events: Because professional operation and road-use permits are required, visitors will watch the moving vehicle from along the roadside.

Venue: Nanawa
(392-1 Niiza Ko, Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture, Japan)
Work No.: T446
Year: 2024
Viewing hours: 10:00–17:00 (until 16:00 in October and November)
